  • DM needs the data from CM in order to provide an overall picture of the data.
  • CM needs DM as an outlet for its information.
  • Companies need both processes in order to be successful.
  • Contrast:

    • CM is at the project level
    • DM is at the enterprise level
    • CM involves just the deliverable data
    • DM involves deliverable data plus all accompanying data
    • CM falls under the Bill of Materials Data, which is a subset to the Bill of Information
    • DM falls under the Bill of Information
    • CM is just at the development and release phases of the product lifecycle
    • DM is at every phase of the lifecycle
